Default human genome build identifier tool

Before I start working on this, does anyone have a tool that identifies which build a set of gene coordinates belongs to from among the human genome builds? I have run into several papers where the authors do not identify the build, and it is clearly not the latest. The idea would be to take a large sample of the coordinates of unknown build and screen them against the last X number of builds to find 100% exact matches. Once known, then the data can easily be lifted from build to build using Galaxy.
