The Bioinformatics Professional at NYGC will be responsible for analyzing and managing next generation sequencing data. Initially, the main goal will be to setup a data analysis pipeline with a focus on analyzing human whole genome/exome and RNA sequencing data. In addition, the person will be responsible for interacting with customers to deliver bioinformatic guidance and support. To apply please email a resume and cover letter to careers@nygenome.org.
Position Requirements: • Advanced degree in the biological sciences with demonstrable computational skills required, PhD preferred; • 2 or more years work experience in Bioinformatics, Genomics or Genetics with experience in analyzing data derived from human genomic sequencing; • Must have experience managing and working with next generation sequencing data; • Must have extensive knowledge and experience in the use of existing bioinformatics tools and biological databases, as well as familiarity with cloud computing; • Experience working in a Linux environment required, with C++/JAVA and running a cluster using SGE and BASH shell scripting strongly preferred; • Prior experience in a new lab operation is preferred, preferably with an emphasis on “external customers” rather than, or in addition, to “internal researchers”; • A high tolerance for change will be beneficial as NYGC is in start-up mode and the environment will morph rapidly; • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. |
