  • HiTSEQ Conference -- Abstracts Due Monday May 10th!

    Dear Colleagues,

The HiTSeq Conference (http://www.hitseq.org) will be held July 9-10 in Boston, just prior to ISMB 2010. Due to some confusion about the abstract deadline date we are extending the abstract submission deadline to next Monday, May 10th. Please see Call for Abstracts and Registration Information at the bottom of this e-mail. We are also very pleased to announce our two keynote speakers at HiTSeq 2010:

    * David Haussler, Professor of Biomolecular Engineering and Director of the Center for Biomolecular Science and Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz; scientific co-director of the California Institute for Quantitative Biomedical Research, and a Howard Hughes Medical Investigator.

    * John Carpten, Director of the Division of Integrative Cancer Genomics at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).

    HiTSEQ 2010 Call For Abstracts:

We are interested in presentations describing methodology to infer various variants (SNPs, large insertions/deletions, copy number variations) from HTS data, both polymorphisms within a population, and somatic variants, for example through paired tumor/normal samples. Another exciting application of HTS technologies is RNA sequencing, which is used for measuring RNA expression, de-novo transcriptome sequencing for non-model organisms, and novel transcript discovery, however computational methods for analysis of this data are just beginning to mature. HTS technology is also commonly used for discovery of transcription factor binding sites (and nucleosome positioning) using CHiP-SEQ, for methylation profiling, and for analysis of metagenomic samples.

HiTSeq welcomes abstract submissions that target these topics, as well as any other important methods related to HTS technologies. of immediate relevance in the field. Presentations at HiTSeq may be either plenary talks or a poster at the conference poster session. To be considered for an oral presentation the material should not have been previously published in any journal or proceedings. Please submit abstracts via e-mail to [email protected] in MS Word or plain text format by May 10th. In your e-mail you should specify all authors, as well as if you wish for your poster to be considered for a talk. The final decisions whether each abstract is presented as a talk or a poster will be made by May 20th.

    HiTSeq 2010 Registration Inforamtion:

The registration for HiTSeq is handled through the main ISMB site (http://www.iscb.org/ismb2010-registration). the cost of REgistration is $200-$250 for those attending ISMB 2010, and $300-$350 for those just going to HiTSeq. Early registration ends May 28th, at which point the cost will increase by $100.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
