    ANy info about bioinformatics workshop

    Hi everyone,

JUst wanted to know if there is any bioinformatics realted workshops realted to the genome sequencing and software handling.

For a beginner it will be helpful to attend some workshops which can educate him about how to handle tools like amos, bambus and all other complciated softwares...

can anyone provide me the info...i tried learning it through internet reading manuals of the software. But its pretty hard...

I help organize some Workshops in both the US and Europe. Our next one is January 2012 and the application deadline has passed. We haven't decided on a location for the US one yet, but expect to have it organized for a July date.

You can sign-up for an email list at http://evomics.org.

IGS over at UMD Baltimore seems to be what youre looking for. I attended it last November and it covers pretty much everything you need from NGS data analysis to applications. Great people too, mostly coming from TIGR now working at IGS

Here's the link in case your interested.

Nine Things a Sample Prep Scientist Thinks About Before Sequencing
              by SEQadmin2

I’m not a sequencing expert. I’m a purification scientist who uses NGS to evaluate workflows my group develops. With this perspective, we think about the sample first and the NGS workflow second. The sequencer is an exceptionally honest reporter, but it can only report on what you give it, so whether you get clean, interpretable data from an NGS workflow is largely determined before you begin.

Here are nine questions we think about, in roughly the order they matter, before...

From Collection to Sequencing: Why Sample Preparation and Preservation Define Sequencing Data
              by SEQadmin2

Data variability is still an issue in sequencing technologies despite the advances in reproducibility and accuracy of these platforms. But the problem does not originate in the sequencing itself, but in the previous steps, before the sample reaches the sequencer.

The first step is collection, followed by preservation and sample preparation for analysis. Most scientists overlook those steps, but not being careful might just be skewing the experiment’s results.
