    Bioinformatician at sequencing core unit of RIKEN CDB in Kobe, Japan

    The Genome Resource and Analysis Unit (GRAS), the sequencing core unit of RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology, is looking for a competent bioinformatician (postdoc or technical assistant) to increase the capacity of processing large-scale sequencing projects by means of illumina HiSeq. The main task will be RNA-seq and ChIP-seq output analysis.

    GRAS provides a broad range of biologist-oriented support for Sanger and massively parallel sequencing, sequence informatics, gene expression profiling and distribution of existing clone resources. In parallel, we conduct our original research projects on vertebrate evolutionary genomics, focusing on evolution of developmental programs. Above all, GRAS aims to create an integrative research support station with back-to-back interaction between laboratory staffs and bioinformaticians inside and take full advantage of emerging next-generation sequencing technologies to apply them to transcriptomic, epigenetic and genomic projects in developmental biology arising in the whole institute.     The appointment is expected to commence in January 2013 and is based on annual contract (for the postdoc position, renewable for up to 5 years upon evaluation). The applicants should or is expected to have the Ph.D. at the commencement (if applying for the postdoc position) as well as solid experience of handling large-scale molecular sequence data on the Linux/Unit computation platform. Experience in wet molecular biology laboratories, especially for library preparation for next-generation sequencing, is considered as plus in the selection, but is not a must. The successful applicant should have fair communication skills (at least in English) and basic knowledge of molecular biology because he or she will be deeply involved in user consultation and project coordination.

    CDB (http://www.cdb.riken.jp/en/), located near the Western center of Japan, offers an international working environment, in which the common language is English. The center hosts quite a few non-Japanese staffs, including Ph.D. students, technical staffs, postdocs and PIs.
