Defective Sequencing Reagents to Cost Illumina up to $23M in 2009

Hi,
In their earning call, Illumina said they experienced issues with sequencing kits and reagents..
How many people here did have this issue ? With which kits or reagents ?

The rumor I heard is that Invitrogen actually makes the kits for Illumina.
Makes one wonder if with their purchase of ABI there's some type of sabotage?
Or maybe they have had to find another vendor to make the kits and that vendor is having trouble getting up to speed?

After skimming through the transcript of the earning report, illumina say that the problem was with their paired-end kits which manifested itself as very high read errors in the 2nd read. It was discovered in Sept. We had a PE run that was performed through a service provider fail in mid Aug in a similar way to their description so we're assuming that this may have been the problem.

Illumina sent out an explanation to instrument owners: It was a reagent in cluster gen kit box 2 that potentially (but not always) affects lot numbers 4834547 to 4958646.
