    Bioinformatics position at The Jackson Laboratory

    Manager, Computational Sciences, Statistics and Analysis

    A unique opportunity exists as Manager of the Computational Sciences, Statistics and Analysis (CS-SA) Group. This key position manages all operational activities of the CS-SA Service including scientific and administrative planning, tasking, personnel management, billing, reporting, and budget development. Our CS-SA Group provides fee recovered analytical services to our research faculty and others within the institution.

    The successful applicant will work closely with research faculty, faculty advisors and the Director of Computational Sciences to ensure resources and processes are aligned with institutional strategic direction and operational requirements, as well as developing analysis plans for research grant applications. Service offerings include gene expression and genetic diversity analysis, sequencing, QTL, statistical consulting, experimental design, molecular modeling, training to research staff, and assistance selecting bioinformatics tools for research applications. In the course of a year, this position interacts with most (if not all) research faculty at The Jackson Laboratory and thus needs to develop a broad understanding of research faculty goals. In the near term, the CS-SA Manager will be instrumental to the successful adoption of High Throughput Sequencing (HTPS) systems at Jackson. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sequence analysis. The successful candidate will embrace change and be a creative thinker with strong interpersonal skills.

    The successful candidate is self-motivated and an excellent oral and written communicator with a strong background and working knowledge in sequence analysis, bioinformatics tools and resources, molecular biology, genomics and genetics, and statistical data analysis techniques. The CS-SA Manager will have a Ph.D. in a biomedical and/or bio-statistical discipline or significant relevant work experience to compensate for the lack of an appropriate Ph.D. degree. The CS-SA Manager must be well organized and have excellent abilities to develop and give presentations on complex research topics to advanced research audiences. Given that biomedical research is in continuous flux, this position also requires that the incumbent be very interested in self-study to stay abreast of most recent advancements in the biomedical research field.
