    Greetings from the medical world!

    Hello professionals and amateurs alike!

I have been here before but now returning as part of a team of people working on a competition platform for modeling in genomics (similar to Kaggle). My background is in medicine and I am currently in the clinical world most of the time but will soon be transitioning to a research environment. I have always been interested in genetics (almost went the academic route but due to logistic reasons ended up in clinical medicine). I was able to rediscover my passion for genetics/genomics after having moved to the United States. I came across a lot of challenges both personally and with resources available for people wishing to utilize data science in genomics during my exposure to the research world. This had lead me to realize the need for better educational tools and resource allocation services for scientists, clinicians, or enthusiasts.

Our small team at 2strand is in the process of testing a prototype at competitions.2strand.com. We plan to use the ultimate version of this product to help people use data science in genomics and support careers of aspiring bioinformaticians. We would like to get feedback from people here at any level of interest or experience in the field. Right now we are testing the most basic concept of a competition-based platform and are using open source software to carry out our first competition.

I would like to note that this is in no way an attempt to advertise for our product or service. We would appreciate honest and constructive feedback on the idea and implementation. We have laid out the current competition with monetary incentive so we can eventually drive traffic and see if people would be interested without prior knowledge of our product. You do not have to participate or be involved to give us feedback.

I would be glad to take criticism, comments, and/or advice. Please don't hesitate to get in touch through email!

    Sincerely,
    Mohamed Samour

Beyond CRISPR/Cas9: Understand, Choose, and Use the Right Genome Editing Tool
    by SEQadmin2

CRISPR/Cas9 sparked the gene editing revolution for both research and therapeutics.1 But this system still showed severe issues that limited its applications. The most prominent were the heavy reliance on PAM sequences, delivery limitations, double-stranded breaks that prompt unintended edits and cell death, and editing inefficiency (both in targeting and in knock-in reliability).

Despite this, “CRISPR helped turn genome editing from a specialized technique into

Proteomic Platforms: How to Choose the Right Analytical Strategy to Improve Detection and Clinical Applications
    by SEQadmin2

Proteomics platforms are evolving rapidly, with advances in mass spectrometry and affinity-based approaches expanding what researchers can detect and at what scale. As the field moves toward deeper proteome coverage and clinical applications, scientists face an increasingly complex landscape of tools. This article will explore how researchers are navigating these choices to find the right platform for their work.

The systematic characterization of the human proteome has

Advanced Sequencing Platforms Tackle Neuroscience’s Toughest Genomics Problems
    by SEQadmin2

Genomics studies in neuroscience face a special challenge due to the brain’s complexity and scarcity of samples. Mapping changes in cell type and state using conventional next-generation sequencing methods remains challenging. Advances in technologies like single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and long-read sequencing have opened the door to deeper studies of the brain and diseases like Alzheimer’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and schizophrenia.
