Newest NextGENe® software version which includes Transcriptome, Forensic Analyzers no

January 6, 2011, State College PA SoftGenetics announced the latest release of NextGENe software. NextGENe software is a free standing, highly graphical and interactive Windows based program for the analysis of short reads generated by massively parallel sequencing platforms. The latest NextGENe includes a Transcriptome analysis module for use with short sequence reads generated by Illumina GA/HiSeq, Applied Biosystems’ SOLiD System and Roche Genome GS Titanium and Junior Platforms. Also included in this release is a Forensic STR Analysis module for use with the Roche platforms.

NextGENe Product Manager, Kevin LeVan, indicated that “the Transcriptome Analysis module integrated into this version of the NextGENe software is a new tool for aligning RNA-Seq data using SoftGenetics Indexed Reference Genomes, build 36 or 37 that include multiple annotated transcripts for each gene. The software utilizes a new algorithm that is better able to align reads spanning exon-exon junctions. Reporting is available that identifies the expressed transcripts, as well as novel transcripts and alternate splice variants in addition to the usual variant and expression information of NextGENe. The structure variant report generated by the software also includes the sequence of the variant region.”

NextGENe Biologist, John McGuigan indicated, “We have implemented a novel analysis approach to STR profile analysis utilizing longer reads obtained from the Roche Platforms, which enables human identity market participants to utilize the high throughput and lower costs of next generation sequencing platforms to address the continual back log of STR profiling endemic to this community”.

“Furthermore”, continued LeVan, “NextGENe 2.1 now includes a considerable number of additional analysis tools, filtering options, annotation, improved variant call scoring algorithm, and other functionalities all requested by our considerable customer base”.

The company offers 30-day trials and no cost web-based training on its genetic analysis software packages. Interested parties may request the software on the company website: www.softgenetics.com or via email: [email protected].

Advanced Sequencing Platforms Tackle Neuroscience’s Toughest Genomics Problems
    by SEQadmin2

Genomics studies in neuroscience face a special challenge due to the brain’s complexity and scarcity of samples. Mapping changes in cell type and state using conventional next-generation sequencing methods remains challenging. Advances in technologies like single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and long-read sequencing have opened the door to deeper studies of the brain and diseases like Alzheimer’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and schizophrenia.

Cancer Drug Resistance: The Lingering Barrier to Rising Survival
    by SEQadmin2

Cancer survival rates have significantly increased in the last few decades in the United States, reaching a combined 70% 5-year survival rate by 2021. Behind this number, there are years of research to find new therapies, drug targets, and early detection methods. But there is one core challenge that keeps slowing down these advances, and it’s about drug resistance.

There is no single reason why many patients don’t respond to treatment as expected. Cancer is...
