Current status of nanopore and iontorrent

    Hi
I was wondering whether genome sequencers from nanopore are out in the market. Is Gridion system mentioned on their site is a genome sequencer?
Can someone mention about its other technical specification such as throughput, cost, runtime, etc etc. as mentioned in 5500xl, GS systems etc.

    What about Ion torrent?
    Thanks

No chemistry that works yet for nanopores.

Ion Torrents are starting to show up in the field.

Some recent info on Ion Torrent can be found at Fejes.ca.

      nanopore

my understanding was that the GridION system has a cartridge functionalised for each chemistry type. I don't know why you say no chemistry yet as the vibe i got was that they have made a lot of progress but are just being secretive.

Okay, more precision: they have no announced functional chemistry, no publicly demonstrated ability to read bases and no released commercialization schedule. They could indeed have a secret chemistry, but if so why not start moving into the market?

They do have a cool looking box (which could be a mock-up) and a proposal that each chemistry would have a unique cartridge.

Even if they do have a chemistry, it would seem conservative to estimate 1 to 1.5 years minimum to actually getting machines available for sale, given some beta testing time and the usual headaches of starting up (PacBio is tending more towards the 1.5 mark; Ion Torrent closer to 1)

I'd like to be wrong, but this may not be in a prime time within 2-3 years.
