I just bought a Mac Pro for NGS analysis.
2 6 core processors, the slowest ones
lowest amount of ram they allowed
1tb hd
no monitor
Then I bought
64GB ram package from OWC
512 GB SSD (you'll need sled adapter for the MacPro)
19" Asus Monitor
Total Cost $5000
OSX will only utilize up to 96 gb of ram, but I think I should have bought the 128kit anyway. If you bootcamp linux or windows 64bit then you can utilize all 128gb
Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it. Low amount of hassle to to start messing around with data sets, then the big jobs can be sent to a high performance computing center
