Hello all! Firstly, thanks to the developers, administrators, and participants of SeqAnswers for providing insight to questions and keeping this site running. I'm looking forward to being a part of this community!
I'm a Research Assistant based in Chicago, Illinois, in the USA. I work in a conservation lab with the Morton Arboretum, and my research here is centered around conservation genetics and RADseq analysis. I'm currently working with a RADseq paired-end dataset sequenced on a NovaSeq 6000, comprising ~380 indviduals from two Oak species, Quercus acerifolia and Quercus boyntonii. The purpose of the research is to compare RADseq and microsatellite markers and the metrics they generate, especially in regards to ex situ conservation (essentially, how genetically representative garden samples are of wild populations).
I received my Master's degree in Biology from Utah State University in 2020, when I first worked with a RADseq dataset as part of a research project analyzing the genetic separation in a species complex of rare and threatened plants. My many programming skills are in R and Unix/BASH, but I hope to pickup more Python down the line.
Feel free to reach out, say hello, and ask me whatever. Excited to learn from you all!
