Howdy: From uarray to RNA seq

Hi all, I'm sort of making the transition from microarrays to RNA-seq (Illumina). A couple of questions that are driving me nuts:

What is a definition for "depth" and so what??
What is a definition for "read"?? and so what??

A read is a single sequence reaction or file.
Depth is the number of reads that map to a region of the reference genome.
