    UNIVERSIDAD DE LOS ANDES

    Computational Biology or Bioinformatics

The Department of Biological Sciences (DCB) at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, seeks to fill a full-time position in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful applicant must possess a Ph.D., preferably with postdoctoral experience and a successful track record of scientific productivity. The candidate will be expected to promote and lead research projects in his/her area of expertise. We especially encourage applicants with research interests and experience in evolutionary biology and genomics.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach an undergraduate course in basic cellular biology and/or computational biology/bioinformatics, along with graduate courses in his or her area of expertise. The expected teaching load will be 2 courses per semester (1 per semester during the first year). The candidate will advise undergraduate, masters and doctoral students in the DCB. The University will soon launch an interdisciplinary Masters Program in Computational Biology sponsored jointly by the schools of Engineering and Science, and we look forward to the successful candidate taking a leadership role in this new program.

Universidad de los Andes is ranked among the top universities in Latin America. The DCB hosts 27 full-time faculty with internationally recognized research programs in evolutionary genetics, tropical parasitology, microbial genomics, phylogeography, bioinformatics, evolutionary ecology, human genetics, and molecular systematics. The successful candidate will have his or her own lab space, basic computational infrastructure consisting of two compute clusters with 136 cores and approx. 300GB RAM in total, as well as access to a centralized DNA sequencing facility and confocal microscope and SEM.
