JOB SUMMARY:
Sangamo is seeking a talented bioinformatics software engineer to join our Technology group and help develop exquisitely specific genome engineering reagents to treat a variety of serious human diseases. The successful candidate will work with the group to improve our NGS pipeline so that it can automate new types of analyses, better integrate with our relational database, and display results for use by scientists in the group. Additional activities will include creating web interfaces to display different types of data in an intuitive manner and using machine learning to mine large datasets for useful patterns. The position requires adaptability, creativity, and a capacity for constant innovation in pursuit of company goals. REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. in computer science, biology, chemistry or related field
- Proficiency in python
- Knowledge of at least one compiled computer language such as C/C++ or Java
- Familiarity with Object-oriented programming concepts
- Familiarity with UNIX-based operating systems and shell scripting
- A solid understanding of basic biological concepts relevant for bioinformatics
- An ability to work in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment
Additional attractive qualities include:
- Experience analyzing large amounts of scientific data, especially NGS data
- Knowledge of statistical tests
- A graduate degree in computer science, biology, statistics, chemistry or related field
- The ability to program in R, SAS, or other statistical computer languages
- Experience with:
- PostgreSQL (or other relation database software)
- Django (or other web frameworks)
- Source control (git or subversion)
- Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) concepts
- Machine learning
- Lab robotics programming
- Javascript visualization libraries (D3.js, paper.js, xtk, etc.)
- Protein engineering
